The Dublin consular district
Ireland has one Italian consular office, and it is part of the Embassy of Italy in Dublin, at 63/65 Northumberland Road in Dublin 4. Its Consular Office serves residents of the whole country, for passports, identity cards, citizenship, AIRE registration and visas. Northern Ireland, being part of the United Kingdom, belongs instead to the Consulate General in Edinburgh.
West of the Shannon, the honorary consulate in Galway (Clarinbridge) helps with limited services by appointment. For everything else, including every visa, you book on Prenot@Mi and go to Dublin.

Getting an appointment in Dublin
Like every Italian consulate, Dublin takes bookings through Prenot@Mi (prenotami.esteri.it), the Foreign Ministry's official appointment platform. Register a free account first; slots are released in batches and the busiest services can disappear within minutes, so have your account, documents and calendar ready before you start hunting. Applying for an Italian visa in Dublin
A visa appointment at the Embassy is obligatory and is booked only on Prenot@Mi, which is often fully booked, so the Embassy asks you to secure it before you buy flights or book hotels. Bookings are personal, non-transferable and free, and the Embassy works with no agencies or intermediaries.
- Who can apply
- Residents of Ireland. Non-EU applicants show their Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card, original plus a photocopy, valid at least one month beyond their planned exit from the Schengen area.
- Booking
- Only on Prenot@Mi, before you book travel. The appointment must fall between six months and 15 days before your departure.
- At the appointment
- In person, with every document on your list; each member of a family appointment needs their own copies.
- Fee
- €116 for a long-stay national visa (€50 for a study visa).
- Processing time
- Up to 15 working days for a short-stay visa. For national visas, italian law gives the office up to 90 days to issue a national visa (30 days for family reunification, 120 days for self-employment) and 15 days for a Schengen visa, extendable to 45.
- Getting your passport back
- Collect it on a Tuesday or Thursday at the time the officer gives you at the interview (usually about 15 days later), or bring a prepaid, pre-registered envelope with tracking and your address, and the Embassy posts it.
