The Ottawa consular district
In the capital region, consular services come from the Embassy of Italy itself. Its Consular Office serves the City of Ottawa, the eastern Ontario counties of Prescott and Russell, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Leeds and Grenville, Lanark and Renfrew, and the Outaouais region of Québec across the river. The rest of Ontario belongs to Toronto and the rest of Québec to Montreal.
The office is open in the morning, by appointment booked on Prenot@Mi, for passports, visas, citizenship applications, civil-status registrations and signature certifications. One wrinkle to know: the Embassy’s visa page describes its visa area slightly more narrowly (the City of Ottawa, the Outaouais and the Carleton, Dundas, Glengarry, Grenville, Prescott, Russell and Stormont counties), so residents of Lanark, Leeds or Renfrew should confirm with ottawa.visa@esteri.it before applying for a visa.

Like every Italian consulate, Ottawa takes bookings through Prenot@Mi (prenotami.esteri.it), the Foreign Ministry's official appointment platform. Register a free account first; slots are released in batches and the busiest services can disappear within minutes, so have your account, documents and calendar ready before you start hunting. Applying for an Italian visa in Ottawa
The Consular Office accepts visa applications from legal residents of its district (Canadians, permanent residents, and holders of work or study permits), by appointment on Prenot@Mi. Visa questions go to ottawa.visa@esteri.it.
