In Canberra, consular services come from the Embassy of Italy itself: its Consular Office in Deakin serves the Australian Capital Territory and two New South Wales towns just over the border, Queanbeyan and Cooma. The rest of New South Wales belongs to the Consulate General in Sydney.
It is also the one Italian office in Australia where a visa application needs no appointment: you apply directly at the office during its visa hours, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 12pm and Wednesday from 1pm to 3pm.

Getting an appointment in Canberra
Like every Italian consulate, Canberra takes bookings through Prenot@Mi (prenotami.esteri.it), the Foreign Ministry's official appointment platform. Register a free account first; slots are released in batches and the busiest services can disappear within minutes, so have your account, documents and calendar ready before you start hunting. Applying for an Italian visa in Canberra
Visa applications from residents of the ACT, Queanbeyan and Cooma are lodged in person at the Consular Office, with no appointment required, during visa hours. Fees are paid by credit or debit card in Australian dollars, and visa questions go to visti.canberra@esteri.it.

- Residents of the Australian Capital Territory and the towns of Queanbeyan and Cooma. Visa applications can only be lodged at the Italian office that covers your place of residence, so someone living in another state applies there, not at Canberra. Australian citizens need no visa for stays of up to 90 days; anything longer needs a national visa.
- Booking
- No appointment needed for visas: apply directly at the office, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10:00am to 12:00pm, Wednesday 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

- In person at 12 Grey Street, Deakin, with every document on the checklist for your visa.
- Fee
- €116 for a long-stay national visa (€50 for a study visa), charged in Australian dollars at the quarterly consular exchange rate, which changes on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October. Pay by credit or debit card, in Australian dollars.
- Processing time
- Italian law sets the limits: a national visa is issued within 90 days of the application (30 days for family reunification, 120 days for self-employment), and a Schengen visa within 15 days, extendable to 45.
