Outside the city, consular agents in towns such as Albany, Bunbury and Collie help Italian citizens with limited services, but they cannot issue a visa or a passport, so both always mean an appointment at the consulate in West Perth.

Getting an appointment in Perth
Like every Italian consulate, Perth takes bookings through Prenot@Mi (prenotami.esteri.it), the Foreign Ministry's official appointment platform. Register a free account first; slots are released in batches and the busiest services can disappear within minutes, so have your account, documents and calendar ready before you start hunting. Applying for an Italian visa in Perth
Perth takes visa applications from residents of its district by appointment on Prenot@Mi. One practical detail catches people out: fees can only be paid with a physical debit card issued by an Australian bank, with its PIN; contactless payments are not accepted.

- Residents of Western Australia, Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Visa applications can only be lodged at the Italian office that covers your place of residence, so someone living in another state applies there, not at Perth. Australian citizens need no visa for stays of up to 90 days; anything longer needs a national visa.

- Fee
- €116 for a long-stay national visa (€50 for a study visa), charged in Australian dollars at the quarterly consular exchange rate, which changes on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October. Pay only with a physical debit card from an Australian bank, with its PIN; contactless is not accepted. The visa is free for the spouse of an Italian, EU, EEA or Swiss citizen.

- Italian law sets the limits: a national visa is issued within 90 days of the application (30 days for family reunification, 120 days for self-employment), and a Schengen visa within 15 days, extendable to 45.
